Catharia

Unimaginable Dreams of Fate

A chapter of growth

Our second album, Unimaginable Dreams of Fate, came at a time of metamorphosis within the band. Sights were set on more technicality, furthering atmosphere, deeper lyrics, and demonstrating lessons learned in the time since the first album.  A noticeable sonic leap forward in all regards while retaining some core elements already established. Expanded songwriting abilities since Midnight Sun were highlighted by partnering with audio engineer Jackson Ward for a second time.

This album cycle holds a noteworthy place in the history of Catharia. We were finally complete with the addition of permanent drummer Michael Edrington towards the end of the recording process and could enter the live show realm. It was the first time we found ourselves receiving regular interviews, reviews, and metal media coverage, as well as record label offers. We would eventually sign our first deal with the Extreme Metal Music division of Rockshots Records in Italy. It would also spawn the band's first ever lyric video for the track Devouring Firmament, which had been written spontaneously during a studio session.

The album had something of an unusual release, first seeing an independent release in May 2024 with singles Tomb Throne and Solemnly leading up. However, shortly after we signed (our first) record deal and that found us pulling the album from sale. It was then professionally released on December 6th, 2024 after a proper promotional campaign.

Midnight Sun

The beginning

Catharia's first album, Midnight Sun, was released independently in the fall of 2022. A combination of online and traditional networking led vocalist Nick Kiefer, guitarist Matt Powell, and engineer Jackson Ward to meet and combine their abilities into a launch pad for Catharia. The band had faced numerous short-lived lineups and vision changes leading up to this time. Catharia finally had a sonic footprint to serve as a bookend for the years of music to come.

Though the album did not see any singles or marketing leading up to it's release, it still made the rounds in local circles. This led to long-time member Dylan T. joining the band a week later. To date, only 50 physical copies are in circulation, all with the original (and since revoked) AI artwork. Title track Midnight Sun continues to be a favorite due to it's unique nature as a slow-burning, gradually ascending, black metal ballad.
